[checklist]9 CRITICAL facts about affiliate marketing with Facebook ads
-know you have a product that sales
If you are trying to send traffic to an offer and it is not converting, you really need to check and see if what you are advertising, is actually a SELLING product or not.
Many times as marketers, we make the mistake of thinking a product is good for certain people, when in reality, no one wants that product. If it is not proven to sell, do not try to breath life into and make it work. You will be wasting your money.
The point of paid ads is to take something that works well, add fuel to the fire, and make a crazy amount of sells.
-make sure Facebook ads is compliant as a method
Believe it or not, every affiliate platform/owner or creator of an affiliate product, may not allow for Facebook Ads to be a method of sending traffic to their product. For some, they may only want their products to be seen by certain types of customers in specific platforms.
It can be a risky game when you choose to advertise affiliate products if you’re not careful in reading the compliance and regulation rules of each product that you like.
I also use Bing Ads (Microsoft Ads) in order to send traffic and I am not able to use that for a lot of products I promote as well.
Just keep an eye for these type of things. You’re not going to get sued if you accidentally do it, but you may not get paid your commissions that you generated for that.
-Audiences is key
Having the right audience is the KEY to being successful with Facebook Ads…period!
I can leave this point right here…but I don’t want to leave you hanging like that 🙂
If you have a product hat is selling well, you already know that if someone sees that product, the customer will be more likely to purchase.
If the ad you created is good, it will cause them to click because your ad copy and picture entices them to take action. They are interested to get more information to see what you’re talking about.
Even if all of these things are great, if you have the right audience, no one is going to purchase your product because you’re speaking to the wrong person.
If I have a sports product that I’m selling, but my ad is targeting stay at home moms, they are not going to purchase.
Now, by accident, some of them may purchase because some may actually be active in sports. That’s where it is key that you have a product that sells well.
However, when it comes to Facebook Ads, in order to make A LOT of money, you need to be on point with the audience that you’re targeting.
-Getting affiliate links approved
This is probably the hardest part that most people have when it comes to doing affiliate marketing with Facebook ads. How do you get your affiliate links approved?
Not all affiliate links will be approved by Facebook. They don’t like these 100 character long, spammy looking links. Those get denied pretty quick. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try, because there are definitely some long affiliate links I got approved and sent traffic to.
My recommendation is that you find something that has a pretty decent domain and try to get that approved. What do I mean by that?
You’re not going to get Maxbounty links like this approved:
However, if the company is able to take your affiliate link and convert into a domain with their domain, your chances are higher to get approved by Facebook. Here’s an example below of one that I got approved:
-Capture Leads With Landing Page, Then Offer
This is probably the absolute best way in order to drive traffic to your affiliate offers and generate a nice income. As a matter of fact, this is the main method I use to teach others affiliate marketing with Facebook Ads.
When you send people straight to an affiliate offer, they can click away from the webpage if they do not like your offer. You cannot get that person back. In my mind, that is a waste of money.
Instead, you send them to something called a capture page, like the one that I have below:
This way, when your traffic hits your page and they like your offer, they have to give you an email address in order to get what you’re promising. When this happens, their email address goes into something called an autoresponsder.
I use GetResonpse and ActiveCampaign for my autoresponsers. This allows me to build a database of my customer’s email addresses , and I can send mass emails to them all at once. I can also write these emails at months head of time, and schedule them to go out at specific times with affiliate offers. This is what you call putting your business on auto-pilot.
As a business owner, this is what you need!
This is what I teach! I love it.
-Traffic Objectives
So many people get confused about what type of traffic objective that they should use when doing Facebook Ads. Despite the fact they are ALWAYS changing, the objectives are very simple..
…just select the thing that you’re looking to do!
I know, to easy right?
Look, I know you’ve probably tried these ads before, but I’ve been there, so let me help you out since we’re specifically talking about affiliate marketing on my entire website.
As bloggers, coaches, speakers, and business owners, you will generally only need to use the following objectives:
Traffic
Conversions
View Views
I rarely use anything outside of those. You do not NEED to use anything else, but it is optional if you want to. If you’re not using the ones I recommended above, I will tell you that you need to stop, and focus on these until you learn how to consistently drive results.
I’d love to dive deeper into this topic, but unfortunately, it will take too much typing!
I will have to make a video on this for you. Stay tuned.
-When to expect results
You will quickly learn that everyone who come out with these crazy results are people who have tested these ad campaigns and perfected them to produce great results. If they didn’t test it at that specific time, they most likely ran a campaign previously that brought forth good results and they mimic it.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that you cannot get good ads as a beginner, but most of the CRAZY results that you see on social media are not from newbies working on their own campaigns.
I say this because you need to be realistic about getting results with this method of affiliate marketing. Paid advertising ccan be really fought, however when you get a winning campaign, all of that money that you spend will be quickly repaid back to you.
You will most likely have to spend $100-$300 before seeing phenomenal results. This is the case because you have to throw money at some of these campaigns so that the Facebook Ads algorithm can find the perfect customer for you.
After you find out what works well, and you replicate the results, that’s when you just repeat over and over until you cannot run it any longer.
I want to let you know that it is ok to lose money in the beginning…AS LONG AS YOU’RE LEARNING.
Do not spend money just to spend money. Spend with a purpose.
If you spend wit a purpose, you WILL get results. I promise.
-Test and optimize
Testing and optimizing your ads goes along with my previous point. If you have the funds to endure this process, it is no question in my mind that you can be a huge success with affiliate marketing. This is what paid advertising is all about.
In order to be successful, all you have to do is make sure hat you do the proper research. As I mentioned earlier, make sure thet you know who your idea customer is, make sure you have a product that is already selling well, and take the time to create your ad.
After you begin running the campaign, intently observe and study the data.
I like to run my ads for at least 3 days without touching it just to see how things go. The algorithm is figuring things out, and I may den get a few leads/sales in the beginning.
After that, I look and see what type of data was gathered. The things that you have to take notice to are things like whether your ad is getting more interaction from men or women. What ages groups are reacting to your ad? Are you getting clicks to your landing page, because if not, that means you have to create better ad copy so that people can click to your landing page…
..so many things to choose from, but after you do it a few times, the numbers from the data that was gathered will to you what you will need to do next.
This is the wonderful world of testing and optimizing your ads.
Anyone can make a few sales and make $1000, may be even $3000 affiliate commissions with these methods.
However, testing is where $1000 can turn into $30000 in 30 days or less.
